With winter come heavy rains in western Oregon. Our partners at Portland COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) have some tips and resources for dealing with potential flooding in the area.
- Slow down and give extra space when driving
- Give extra space for emergency vehicles
- Watch for emergencies like water or downed power lines
Support people outside who may be at risk
- If someone appears to be in danger, call 911. Or, if you see someone about whom you are concerned during severe weather, call the Portland non-emergency response line at 503-823-3333 and request a welfare check.
- To support someone in crisis, you can call the Multnomah County crisis line at 503-988-4888.
- People are welcome to keep dry in government buildings open to the public, such as libraries and community centers, during open hours.
- Library hours are listed on the Multnomah County Library website.
- Information on City of Portland Community Centers can be found here (drop in fees may be required).
